First-Timer’s Guide to Southwest Las Vegas Bagel Shops: Styles & Spreads
Your First Southwest Las Vegas Bagel Experience, Upgraded
Walking into a busy bagel shop for the first time can feel like a pop quiz. The line is moving, the menu is full, and everyone ahead of you seems to know exactly what they want.
This guide fixes that. Here is what to order at our Southwest Las Vegas shop, whether you want something classic, something hearty, something light, or something you can eat one-handed on the way to work.
What Makes Abel's Different
Nick opened Abel's in 2022 after moving from New York, and the shop still runs on old-world method: hand-rolled, slow-fermented, boiled with barley malt, and baked fresh in Southwest Las Vegas. That is the short version. What it means for your order is a bagel with real chew and a crust that holds up to a heavy schmear.
The rest of the menu is built with the same care. Salads are made in-house, the ham comes from Fra'Mani, and the acai bowls, smoothies, and juices come out of Nick's background running an organic juice bar back in New York.
The dry desert air makes bagel baking harder here than it is back east, so the dough is kept covered during production and a water spray bottle is used to prevent bagels from drying out or becoming crusty before proofing. You will taste the result rather than see it: a bagel that stays tender inside even on a 110-degree morning.
Start With the Bagel Itself
If this is your first visit, order at least one bagel that lets you actually taste the bagel. A Single Bagel is the cleanest read on the dough. Ask which bagels were baked most recently if you want to find what is fresh.
From there, the two workhorse orders are Bagel with Cream Cheese and Bagel with Custom Cream Cheese. Custom Cream Cheese is a popular, distinctive Abel's option customers love because it gives them the flexibility to customize their spread, and the counter does not skimp on it. Also worth asking about are the Bagel Chops, small-batch spreads chopped and whipped fresh in-house daily in limited quantities. When they are out, they are out.
Order by What You Are Craving
Deli style
The deli side is where Abel's shows off. Signature Fra'Mani Ham and the Premium All-Natural Turkey Sandwich are the straightforward picks, both built on quality meat rather than volume.
The house salads are the sleeper orders. Customers regularly tell Abel's that its chicken, tuna, and egg salads are among the best they have had. They are made in-house.
Heavenly Picks
This is the section to browse if you want something with a name and a personality behind it. The Katz NV and The James Salvatore live here, and the lineup is worth a look before you default to the usual. If you are not sure which to try, ask the counter which one they would order.
Hearty
Bagel With One Egg is the foundation of a proper breakfast sandwich, and you can build from there with cheese and meat.
The other heavyweight is the Signature Smoked Salmon & Schmear, which is the order to get if you want to know what this shop can really do.
Light and fresh
The açaí bowls are a hidden gem that many customers overlook. Abel's açaí-bowl journey began with Nook's Organic in Roslyn. The NK Traditional Acai Bowl is the classic, or go with Choose Any 5 Toppings and build it yourself.
On the drink side, there are house smoothies like Rise & Shine, Polar Bear, Brown Bear, Aloha, and Moche Mocha, plus fresh juices including Green Eyed Lady, Little Red Corvette, Orange Blossom Special, and Big Green Tractor. You can also Create Your Own Smoothie or Create Your Own Juice. A half sandwich next to a bowl or a juice is a good move on a hot Las Vegas morning.
Grab-and-go
Order a Single Bagel and a Premium Coffee and you are out the door in a few minutes. Cream cheese on the side is also available, an option regulars request.
Taking it home
We generally recommend about 1 to 1.25 pounds of cream cheese per dozen bagels. If you just want spread, the 1/4 Pound and 1/2 Pound Custom Cream Cheese are sold separately, so you can choose the amount that fits your group. For anything larger, get in touch and we will help you plan it.
A Few Ordering Tips
Come early if you want the widest selection. Doors open at 7am Monday through Saturday and 8am on Sunday, and the shop closes at 2pm on weekdays and 3pm on weekends. Online ordering runs 7am to 2pm. This is a breakfast and lunch stop, not an afternoon one.
It gets busy, and that is a good sign. The line moves fast. The dining area is small, so an early visit is your best shot at a table. Ask which bagels were baked most recently to find what is fresh. Bagels can also be at their best after they have cooled and set. Think in layers when you build your own: bagel, spread, protein, then vegetables.
